Beste circus- en cultuurprofessional,
Op donderdag 12 januari 2023 organiseren Circuspunt & TENT voor de tweede keer A Day at the Circus met gesprekken, performances en workshops voor professionals. Want het gaat goed met het circus! De jarenlange investering in de discipline werpt zijn vruchten af. Het Nederlands hedendaags circus is op weg naar volwassenheid, maar de weg daarnaartoe zit vol hobbels en uitdagingen. Hoe maken we circus op nog meer podia mogelijk? En hoe kunnen we de interesse van het publiek verder aanjagen?
We brengen programmeurs, marketeers, technici, producenten, journalisten en circus professionals bijeen rond thema’s die het Nederlands circus verder tot wasdom kunnen brengen. Zo heeft het imago van circus nog steeds te lijden onder stereotypering en loopt circus in de representatie van etnische diversiteit op het podium nog achter. Tussen de wens tot programmering en de daadwerkelijke presentatie, liggen ook nog flink wat technische en productionele uitdagingen.
Na een succesvolle eerste editie in 2021 zetten we vanuit Circuspunt & TENT het inhoudelijk gesprek tussen het brede culturele veld en het circusveld verder. We onderzoeken en bespreken hoe we het publiek kunnen bereiken; we informeren het brede veld uit andere disciplines over de ontwikkelingen in het Nederlandse circus; en bevorderen de onderlinge kennismaking tussen deze doelgroepen. Met vereende krachten brengen we circus verder tot wasdom.
Zet donderdag 12 januari, van 10:00 – 17:30 in Theater Bellevue alvast in de agenda. Binnenkort wordt het programma bekend gemaakt waarna de officiële uitnodiging volgt. A Day at the circus wordt georganiseerd door Circuspunt i.s.m. TENT. Circuspunt is het platform voor het (verenigde) Nederlandse circusveld. Het ondersteunt en stimuleert de algehele ontwikkeling van de circussector en vertegenwoordigt de circusbelangen naar partijen buiten de circuswereld. TENT is het huis voor hedendaags circus van Nederlandse bodem. Sinds de oprichting in 2010 ondersteunen ze makers in verschillende stadia van hun artistieke ontwikkeling en maakproces. Hiermee investeren zij in een kwalitatief hoogwaardig en divers circusaanbod in Nederland.

On Thursday January 12th, 2023, Circuspunt & TENT will organize – for the second time – A Day at the Circus with talks, performances, and workshops for professionals. Because the circus is doing well! Years of investment in the discipline are paying off. Dutch contemporary circus is on its way to maturity, but the road towards it is full of bumps and challenges. How do we make circus possible on even more stages? And how can we further encourage audience interest?
We bring together programmers, marketers, technicians, producers, journalists, and circus professionals around themes that can further bring Dutch circus to maturity. For instance, the image of circus still suffers from stereotyping and circus still tends to be underperforming in the representation of ethnic diversity on stage. Between the desire for programming and the actual presentation, there are also quite a few technical and production challenges.
After a successful first edition in 2021, we from Circuspunt & TENT will continue the substantive conversation between the broad cultural field and the field of circus. We investigate and discuss how to reach the audience; we inform the broad field from other disciplines about the developments in Dutch circus; and promote mutual acquaintance between these target groups. Together, we bring circus to maturity.

A Day at the circus is organized by Circuspunt in collaboration with TENT. Circuspunt is the platform for the (united) Dutch circus field. It supports and stimulates the overall development of the circus sector and represents circus interests to parties outside the circus world. TENT is the house for contemporary circus from Dutch soil. Since its foundation in 2010, they support makers in different stages of their artistic development and creative process. With this, they invest in a high-quality and diverse circus production in the Netherlands.
